If you are comparing youth soccer programs in Katy this fall, the first big question is usually the same: recreational or competitive? At Redeemer Sports we offer both pathways, and the right answer depends on your player’s age, experience, and how much time your family wants to give to the sport each week. Here is an honest side-by-side look to help you decide.
Recreational (in-house) soccer at a glance
- Open to players from age 4 (ideal for about ages 4 to 9), boys and girls, with co-ed options
- No tryouts – every player is welcome
- One training session and one game per week
- In-house league, so players compete within the club
- $250 per season, plus a $160 annual uniform set (jersey, shorts, and socks)
- Games and training at The King’s Palace Sports Arena
Our in-house program is built as a welcoming first step. New players learn ball control, passing, movement, and what it means to be part of a team, without the pressure of tryouts or travel. Because the league stays in-house, evenings and weekends stay predictable for families.
Fall Season 3 runs November 6 to December 11, and registration is open now. Fall Season 1 sold out and Season 2 wraps up October 30. Spring seasons pick back up in February, so there is always a next starting point if this one does not fit your calendar.
Competitive soccer at a glance
- Boys’ and girls’ teams starting at U9
- Tryouts required
- Two training sessions and one game per week, plus one to two tournaments a year
- Local Houston leagues
- Fall season runs August to December; spring season runs February to May
- $1,950 for the full season (August to May), with payment plans that begin with a $200 deposit
- Uniform and ball kit: $200
- Based in Katy
Competitive soccer is structured for players who are ready for a higher level of challenge: more training, league play against other clubs, and tournament weekends. It asks more of the whole family, and for the right player it gives back just as much in growth, discipline, and confidence.
So how do you choose?
Age is the starting point. In-house soccer is ideal for players about ages 4 to 9. From age 7, players can start trying out for the competitive program – competitive teams play U9 and up. Many families spend a season or two in-house first, but age alone never decides placement. Coaches also look at experience, confidence, physical readiness, and the level of challenge that will help a player grow.
The good news: you do not have to figure it out alone. Any family can request program information and attend a scheduled tryout or free training session, where a coach evaluates the player in person and recommends the right level. And nothing is permanent. Players move up over time, from in-house soccer to the development academy, then competitive soccer, and for dedicated players, the TKP Eagles pathway.
More than soccer
Redeemer Sports is a faith-based club, and character is part of every program we run. Purpose, teamwork, and respect show up in every training session, not just in a mission statement. Our goal is bigger than developing good players. It is developing well-rounded young people who make a positive impact in their families and their community.
What if cost is the concern?
Talk to us before you count your player out. Scholarships, financial assistance, and family discounts are available across our programs, and competitive fees can be spread across payment plans. We would rather work with your family than have a player sit out a season.
